1. Use the stairs instead of the elevator.
Yes, I get it. Your office is on the third floor and its eight in the morning and the last thing you want to do while half-awake is add some extra walking into your day. Taking the stairs really can make a difference with up to an extra 100 calories a day burned and on top of that it helps target your abs, hamstring, gluteus and quads. It’s worth it.
2. Use breaks as a chance to get a set in
It’s always good to take a break every thirty minutes to stretch your muscles as sitting for long periods of time does end up giving some horrible cramps. Use this time wisely and do a set of abs, squats, etc. It’s a good way to get your mind cleared, get your blood pumping and get a mini-workout in.
3. Work while you exercise
No I’m not suggesting you bring your laptop to the gym and try to flip through it while walking on the treadmill. One of my favorite ways to get some exercise is to record my notes on my iPod and listen to them while taking a run. Go between a few minutes of notes, and then a song or two.
4. Park in the back
An easy way to get a little extra step in your day is to park in the back of parking lots/ top of parking garages. On top of getting a little extra workout you also spare your car from damage.
5. Walk and Talk
Have to make a phone call? Take a walk while talking. Meeting a friend? Take a walk. It seems silly but you really don’t realize how much you are actually walking when you’re distracting yourself with someone else.
